Dr. Livingstone's brother John
Hi All, As you probably are aware by now, the vast majority of Livingstons are convinced that they are related to Dr. Livingstone including a few of my own relatives. I am not so sure, but I can say with 100% certainty that Dr. Livingstone's older brother John Livingstone (1811-1899)his wife Sarah MacKenzie and family did indeed settle in the 1800's in Listowel,Ontario, Canada, about an hour an half drive from where I live. Most of the family left Listowel it would seem including a couple of sons that went to the States. THe settlement patterns of the family is documented up to about 1900 and then it takes a bit of work to locate them. My focus at this point is to see if any descendants are still living in the Listowel area.

Dr. Livingstone's brother John
Hi Kyle, If I manage to find any lost Livingstones of Dr. David's brother's family I will mention the Clan site and the DNA project to them for sure.Interestly, Dr. David Livingstone's brother John wrote to the New York Herald in 1872 regarding his brother David and his experiences in Africa from his home in Listowel, Ontario. I have the exact date if someone has access to the New York Herald on microfilm. I would be interested in the seeing the letter as I think others would. Oddly enough, I stumbled upon yet another old book on Dr. Livingstone searching at an Antique store. This time it was book published about year or so after the death of Dr. Livingstone and written by Stanley. Its really weird how this antique books on Dr. Livingstone in recent months just seem to pop out at me on the shelves. He really was an amazing guy and compassionate human being. No wonder we all want to be related to him. As for the male descendants of my ancestor Miles Livingston, he had two surviving sons Daniel and John whose family before 1900 were living in Michigan. Miles eldest son Hugh died in Ontario as a young man. One sons family branch has died out I was told and the other we lost track after they settled in Michigan. I seem to be the only one researching Miles Livingstone and family at present, so not much luck finding any lost descendants of Miles Livingstons living presumingly in Michigan, Ilinois or elsewhere in the United States. But perhaps someday some Livingstone relative in Michigan will pop up. regards Donald (Livingstone) CLink
