According to a descendant, Malcolm Livingston, his wife Catharine and 10 Children of Blaich, Argyllshire arrived in 1849 at Sydney, Australia aboard the ship "The Blonde". They listed the children as Mary, Flora, Ann, Hugh, John, Anne, Angus, Donald, Alexander and Allan. Later some of this family were located in North West Australia apparently. Checking the 1841 Scottish Census I located a Malcolm Livingston age 40 and his wife Catharine age 40 along with children in 1841: Mary 11, Ann age 9, Flora age 9, Ewen (Hugh) age 8, John 6, Ann?, Angus age 2, N.K? age 3 weeks residing at Blaich in Kilmallie Parish, Argyllshire. They are not listed in the 1851 Census in Argyllshire and this would make sense if this is the family which departed in 1849 for Australia. I have so far located baptismal records for Malcolm and Catharine's children Donald baptised 18/04/1841, Ann baptised 12/01/1838 and Ewen baptised 13/05/1833 in Kilmallie Parish. Parents are listed as Malcolm Livingston and Catharine McDonald. Presumingly they were married around 1830 in Kilmallie Parish but there does not seem to be a surviving marriage entry for them. Malcolm and his wife Catharine were born abt. 1801 or 1800 almost certainly in highland Argyllshire but it is unfortunately not clear.

Hi Donald,
In Ancestry, the parents of Malcolm are listed as Hugh Livingstone & Anne McVean, or McBean, Malcolm died 24 Jan.1905 at Maitland, New South Wales, he is buried at East Maitland Cemetery, his occupation is listed as a shepherd.
Residence in Scotland is listed as Blaich, Ardgour, Argyll,

Re: Malcolm Livingston arrived Australia 1849
Hi John,
Thanks for that. Hoping that this additional info will be of help to those in Australia who are descendants of this family. Did you mean that Malcolm died in 1905 in Australia? There are some parish records for some of the children of Hugh Livingston and Ann McVean of Kilmallie Parish, Argyllshire between 1818 and 1833, but none for Malcolm born abt. 1800. As Malcolm named his eldest son Ewen (Hugh) that also suggests that his father was possibly named Hugh or EWen. There are also earlier entries for a Hugh Livingston and Ann McMillan at Kilmallie Parish but again no Malcolm is listed as their son. I wonder if Malcolm's death record from 1905? was the source of info as to parents being Hugh Livingston and Ann McVean. That will help in the verrification process. Definitely Hugh Livingston and Ann McVean were residing in Kilmallie Parish in the early 1800's according to the Scottish parish records, though the parish records for their childrens birth/baptisms are from 1818 and 1833 or something like that and Malcolm was born about 1800. Malcolm's mother could have married early however.
regards,
Donald

Hi John,
Somewhere in Australia today are perhaps the descendants. Interesting that there is a surviving passenger list.

Donald

Hi Donald,
Another Livingstone from Blaich area;
05 Sept 1844; William Laurie from Corran, Parish of Ballachulish, married Ann Livingstone, daughter of John Livingstone of Blaich. Blaich is on the south side of Loch Linnhe, not far from Corpach.
I don't know if Ann is the same family previously researched or not, hopefully this info is of use to someone,
John

Re: Malcolm Livingston arrived Australia 1849
Hi John,
QUite possibly there was a Livingston family group residing in the Blaich Kilmallie parish area in Argyllshire.
I forget now where I found the original discussion of this Livingston family that settled in 1849 in Australia, it was I believe it was a descendant/relative who knew something of the family in Australia. As mentioned earlier I had found this family in Argyllshire before they left for Australia in the 1841 Scottish census. See an earlier posting. I imagine there are other Livingstons listed somewhere on those extensive lists of arrivals to Australia if someone had the patience to go through all those lists. Its great that such records survived and of great benefit for family researchers in Australia. Kevin Livingstone is our Clan Commissioner in Australia there in Tasmania, I think he would be interested in this list you have located if he does not already know about it. Its great that in some cases in lists the age of those listed. That list is really quite comprehensive. I would bet a lot of Australians would find their ancestors on this list.

Donald
