Hi, I'm looking for someone from the McLeay side of my family that could help with the Scotland relatives. McKinney side came to Virginia around 1750's. They traveled South to Alabama and Tennessee 1800's. The McLeay's came from Scotland in 1800's to Canada then to northern states. If there is a McLeay out there that I can make contact with to help with the Scottish side I'd appreciate. The McLeay's were John and Anna (McLean) m. 1807 Gairloch Parish, Ross and Cromarty Scotland. They had six children Margaret, Donald, Roderick, Alexander, Catherene and Murdoch.

Any help would be great because I'm getting nowhere!

Harlon,

We will definitely try to help you with your McLeays. That spelling was favored in Ross and Cromarty, as there is a large group of McLeas/McLeays there.

If you have any more info about the parents or children (dates of birth, particular place-names, etc.) that will give us a helpful starting point!

Anna McLean's father was deceased Roderick in 1807 on her marriage.
Margaret b. 25 nov. 1807 Scot
Donald 16 jun. 1811 " "
Roderick 27 jun. 1814 " "
Alexander 10 jul 1817 " "
Catherene 31 may 1820 " "
Murdoch 26 sept 1823 " "

I have talked with McLeay's here in the states is known about the Scotland folks. How two families have two different surnames is a puzzle also but we are matched in DNA.

Can you explain what you mean here a little more? I'm a co-admin on the DNA project and may be able to help there too.

By email. I have not found the right one that may know more information and that is the reason for the post. I'm not sure word has gotten out to the rest of this group of McLeay's they match our McKinney's. As you know we are the I-L38 group which may help. I'm still just lost? The information on the McLeay's is in the form of a book starting with John McLeay and Anna McLean.
