Livngston/Maclay/Macleay Tartan Order

Post by Bachuil »

I have a clansman interested in ordering a kilt in the Livngston/Maclay/Macleay Tartan no 1488 as shown here http://www.clanlivingstone.info/Maclay.htm.

I thought I would get some woven in single width (about 27ins) in heavy weight (16oz) material which is the preferred weight for pipers. It will be made with a proper kilting selvedge. I have to place the order within a week.

Price would probably be the same as for Edgar's Stock range of 16oz (http://www.highlandclans.co.uk/Edgar_He ... rtans.html) - about £36.60 (ex Vat) or £43.90 (inc Vat) a metre .

AS an incentive our Clan Society Members would be able to get a 20% discount of this price

A Standard kilt would need 7.4m (8yds)

If you are interested could you respond to this and I will get back to you.

Regards to all

Ooh, I am possibly interested in this. I have a kilt maker in mind here, so I might just be interested in the tartan. I am looking into things and will get back to you ASAP.

Hi Bachuil,

Feel free to email me about the tartan order when you're ready.

I'm thinking about getting a traditional 4-yard box-pleated kilt (a bit different in look from the traditional 8-yard knife-pleated kilt, but also with a long history in Scotland!) made here in the US with some tartan wool. So, I wouldn't mind getting 5 yards or so of the Maclay tartan (1488)?

Let me know when you need more info!

Good Morning, Bachuil. I, too, am interested. I need to talk with the boss and see if she will release the funds for the material. I would also be making a box pleat kilt like Kyle mentioned but doing it myself. This would also give me a sample for the clan tent. :D

I very much regret that the mill have come back saying that the minimum order will be very much greater than they first intimated so that we will need to order about 60m of double width cloth.

I think we will have to put this onto the back burner until there is much more demad.

I am sorry to have raised hopes only to dash them.

Alas! Thank you for trying, Bachuil. If it should become possible later on, please let us know. By then, our Society numbers may be greater, and we may then have more interest!

Thank you for trying. My wife let me know this morning that our finances were not where she wanted them to be and that I would need to find out if we could cancel. I will start putting aside funds to be prepared for the next time.
