Kyle, Only an Idea/Theory at this point until it can be proven. Its a suspicion at this point. I suspect that James could be the grandson of: COLL LIVINGSTONE, Baron of the Bachuil, b. 16 Jan. 1773 at Bachuil; m. 1812, Mary Carmichael, b. 29 Feb. 1796 at Balure, Lismore, and had issue, I suspect that this could be the mother of James: Anne, b. 15 March 1814 at Bachuil. Daughter of COLL. Anne Livingstone I am looking for would have married Feb 26, 1829,To Duncan Mccormick

Good to see! Just a remark that might surprise you: the Livingstone project would still love to have you even if you are sure of the name change. Why? Because you might have relatives who don't know what you know! When a name change might be forgotten by many people within a family, then I think it is wrong to exclude such people from any DNA project. Afterall, while your case is comparitively recently there were once no doubt many Livingstones who took their surname from their mother's side. Your James simply founded a new Y DNA branch of the surname so to speak. Keep in mind that you can be part of several projects at once. Joining the Livingstone project just makes sure you are "in the loop". Best Regards Andrew

Andrew, Yes, I suspect that my james would have MCCORMICK "y" DNA, his mother would have some livingstone Dna. If James had Livingstone "Y" DNA then my research would be incorrect. The fortunate thing is I have several male Livingstone cousin's that I could ask if they would participate. What are the costs? I would carry some Livingstone & mccormick dna, however it would not be detected in my "y" dna or "mtdna testing as James is my 3rd great grandfather. The best success would to have my Male livingstone cousins participe. Bob

Definitely recommend you consider participation in the project, Bob.

Kyle, are you saying with my line as shown below, my dna to livingstone & mccormick dna could be detected with the current technology? I have put some notes as to what descendants I would have tested. Duncan McCormick born in 1813 in Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, Argyll, Scotland.

Kyle, Yes, I agree. I am trying to get Direct male descendants of McCormick/Livingstone to particpate as it would open a lot of doors. There was some discouargement, however I told my cousins that the test is non-invasive and the test is quite simple done from home and only a simple swab of the inside of cheek is neccesary. I have seen Andrew Lancasters websites and they are very impressive and educational, he is certainly doing a good job managing the DNA project and he has good direction on many of the Clans genealogies as well. When I solidify my LIVINGSTON ancestral Line I will develop a nice website. Below are some of my websites: http://groups.msn.com/MeherencGenealogy http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... ttelagace/

According to the 1841 census, Anne Livingston was 40 and Duncan Mccormick was 55.
