Niall, There is little doubt that your ancestors had legimate claim by St. Molaug and the grace of God to large areas of Lismore and Appin that was clergy land in those ancient times. I suspect however that Archibald Campbell and his land hungry kin despite respectfully acknowledging your familie's ancient title in the 1500's, did everything they could to acquire what once had been yours. regards Donald

Young Bachuil, The Argyll Valuation Rolls that I posted about, are further confirmation of your conclusion that the Lindsaig Mcleas were the last major Mclea landowner in Argyll other the Lismore base. It is intersting to note that the 9 merck of land owned by the McLeas in Lindsaig in 1751 ended up in the hands of those pesky Campbells by 1802, in this case the Campbells of Otter. Craig
