A Register of Emmigrants?

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

Hi Kyle, Glad to see you taking the inniative here on the settlement records and that there is some interest in this project. As you remember when I suggested it a few weeks ago, it did not meet with much interest. While I am as always supportive of all the fine work you have done for the Maconlea Livingstones, I would hope you would someday consider merging your webpage and your work with this webpage which is the official Maconlea Livingstone webpage of the Bachuil Livingstones. As a friend and fellow clansman my feeling on this issue are by now I am sure well known history to you. Much as your Ben Franklin urged your thirteen colonies to unite over great initial opposition from his fellow colonials, I am asking you to consider this noble idea and look beyond the present to better clan future. sincerely yours, Donald (Livingstone) Clink

Well, Donald, I hear your plea. On the other hand, I have no access to the Clan's webspace, and I don't think the Young Bachuil would want me mucking about on it.

I have to agree with Kyle on this. If, let's say, we have a link on the Home Page (like the DNA Project under CLAN) it will do the same thing as having it right on this site. What I would recommend on Kyle's site is have a link to this website as well that way there is a unified sense. People can get to here from there and there from here. The Internet is just one big assortment of links. Also with the two sites linking it will be easier for people to search/google and find both areas, drawing more people here. Just my opinion. :) David

Hi Kyle, Niall is supportive of everything we do here, but is very busy right now. So maybe from time to time we have to step up to the plate and come up with new ideas and inniatives. Of course you have your own objectives with your webpage, but my sense is that the settlement list would make a worthy addition to Niall's webpage if we could work it with him. Unfortunately now is not a good time to approach Niall about a merger, but there is no reason why we cant go ahead with the format, compile the list including what the Aussies have. That being said I think that he can be approached on the idea of a comprehensive settlement list of New World settlers ie. North AMerica, Australia etc. My idea was originally for you and I to submit a proposal to the Young Bachuil that would include some sort of chronological format of settlement information that could be easily included by Niall with the collection of other things he and ROb set up over the last few years. It would be easily accessed by any one coming into the webpage looking for information on the clan. I know when I was looking for information on my Livingstone ancestors this webpage was one obvious source of information. As good as Wikipedia is we offer the Livingstone researcher a treasure trove of information and

Hi Kyle, Thats sounds good to me Kyle and a workable compromise given the current circumstances. Well done. And I will submit my info that I have been collecting to your site and eventually when Niall is able to add it to his site you can send him this settlement info. Does that sound ok to you? Basically what I have is a settlement date or approximate settlement date, where settled, point of origin in Scotland if recorded, name of ship, name of settlers man and wife if known. THese would be for Canadian Livingstone settlers primarily from the early 1800's to the 1840's. And of course it is a work in progress. Of course if my heart quits on me and I stop breathing next week that could put a damper on my plans, but I shall do the best I can to get this info to you in the near future as I have been working on it over the last couple of months. regards Donald (Livingstone) Clink
