Post by Deirdre Nyasa Rolfe Livingstone »

Dear clansfolk, I work at VisitBritain, which is the National Tourist office for Britain, and I am leading on a new initiative for ancestral tourism, based here in London.

Ancestral Tourism

Hi Deirdre, I have not had the pleasure of introduction, but sufice to say we are distant kin through Miles Livingstone who once upon a time lived on your Island or on the nearby Movern mainland in the 1770's. I am in touch with a great nephew of Dr. David Livingstone as your brother has likely told you and am hoping to discuss some projects with him as he lives but an hours drive from me in Canada. He like myself is Canadian and proud of it. He is the great-grandson of Dr. Livingstone's eldest brother John who came to Canada in the 1840's. He may also prove to be a cousin of yours should DNA testing prove it conclusively so. I wish you much success with your survey. The quest to find one's ancestors in Scotland is a quest shared by many tourists to be sure. Indeed we all support your brother he is one of the wisest men in Scotland today and a man of the highest spiritual principles fitting for someone claiming descent from St. Molaug. Like your brother I also am religious, but my involvement in religion is along secular lines of promoting human rights throughout the world. While there are so many human rights abuses one can focus upon in the world today, I am also concerned about human rights abuses of the past. One that comes to mind in the context of Highland Scotland was the clearances. No doubt you are familiar with this unfortunate period of Scotish history and its affect upon the clans. Anyways nuff said about that. Good luck with your survey. regards Donald (Macdunsliebhe) Clink

Hi Donald Thanks for your message - and sorry to take so long to reply - will have more on the survey in the next couple of weeks. Are you aware that I went out to Livingstone in Zambia last November with my partner Robert - when we travelled with David Livingstone and his grandson - David Livingstone Wilson - who are direct descendants of Agnes Livingstone - Dr L's daughter.

Hi Deirdre, I appreciate your response. The David here in Canada had not met your father or Niall, but has over the years forged a solid friendship with his cousin David Livingstone Wilson who you and your family knows well. David Livingstone Wilson has been to Canada and David Livingstone took him to the town of Listowel, Ontario where David's great-grand father John Livingstone Sr.(1811-1899)is buried. John Sr. would be David Livingstone Wilson's great Uncle. John Livingstone left for Canada a couple of years after Dr. David first left for Africa in 1840. Dr. David Livingstone and his elder brother John were quite close and kept in touch right to very end of the Doctor's life. (If you look at the picture Niall has of
