Doctor David Livingstone's Jacobite ancestors

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

Please note that while Doctor David Livingstones ancestors were likely Jacobites no where did he state that his great-great grandfather participated in the 1715 Jacobite uprising. To be sure Maconleas (McLeas) were involved with MacDougalls and others in this 1715 uprising, but Dr. Livingstone never mentioned this in his personal narrative first published in 1857. Regarding Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 he briefly states on the first page of his introduction to his book that "Our great-grandfather fell at the Battle of Culloden fighting for the old line of kings" and regretably nothing more on his family Jacobite connections. Unfortunately the author of this wikipedia insert on this aspect of Doctor Livingstone's history has provided information which is both misleading and inaccurate. If any of our clan members who are working on the MacLea Wikipedia project could correct this information this info it would be greatly appreciated both by myself and his kin. regards Donald (Livingstone) Clink

Hi Kyle, THere is a list that includes information under 1715 Uprising. No I made a promise to Niall that I would devote all my time and resources to work with the clan on this forum. No time to go to another website. Let the wikipeadians sort these details out for themselves. regards Dhomnall

It doesn't appear in Dr Livingstone's article, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

Hi Andrew, You know, I was looking at the JSTOR logo, thinking, I didn't think I had access to this, but then the thinking-brain shut down and the lizard-brain told me to post the links. Sorry to post links that aren't readable by everybody!
