Hi Kyle, Another topic Keep me posted on the situation with the Livingstone DNA project as I would like more details and would like to get the wheels in motion for Dr. Livingstone's nephew beginning possibly in the fall. Donald

Hello Donald, I would have to agree with Kyle that this would need to come from some one who knows clan laws and procedures, like Niall. I did a lot of research online but found nothing directly related to "Petition Processes" and "Clans"... only thing that would come up is how to petition the Lord Lyon for coats of arms. From your post "if there is still in effect the ancient petition process.. contact one's clan chieftain with a petition expressing

My understanding is that much of this is romanticised. I would start by referring you to http://www.clanmclea.co.uk/ClanSociety.htm and Sir Crispin Agnew
The Baron of Bachuil,
Coarb of St Moluag
Chief of MacLea

David, I doubt that Lord Lyon would give me the time of day, but who knows maybe it would turn out to be a useful exchange of ideas that would benefit all clans. Certainly if anyone was aware of problems facing ancient clans in the modern world today he would be. Great idea. Donald

Niall, Romantic? I guess in the end its the Scotland which ones prefers. THe Scotland of Locke, Newton and The Duke of Sutherland or the Scotland of St. Moulaug and our ancient clan. I have made my choice. regards DOnald (Livingstone) Clink

It has also been suggested that concerns about a theme park, fast food restaurants, and the potential comercialization of Clan McLea, St Molaug and the Island of Lismore should be addressed in any possible petition. I had not thought about that, but I can see how that might easily happen if our ancient legacy is challenged. Also concerns about any possible future development of toy action figures of St. Molaug should also be voiced. Also the idea of certificates of merit was an interesting idea. In one instance in the past a clan member attacked the notion of the clan tartan and a member of another clan a Stewart responded to defend highland tartans in general. He was never given the credit he deserved and few in the clan know about this incident which happened a while back. THis did not happen on our forum and this person never did get support he deserved. His comments should be republished and this Stewart gentleman given some sort Clan McLea certificate of merit for challenging our misinformed clansman. No doubt certificates of merit could be given out by Niall or the Baron for other acts of clan related courage in the case of extreme difficulties. I would certainly consider including this idea in my clan petition. regards Donald Livingstone Clink

To avoid accusations that elements of the petition are perhaps foolish and petty, a petition commitee should probably be formed with focuses on the core issues of legitimate concern and give a designated editor the responsibility of tightening up and editing of the final draft. Priority should be given to core ideas with others in ranking order. The end product should not only read well, but be passionate, eloquent convincing and above reproach. The tone should be passionate but also respectful of those whom we oppose and whom oppose us. We draw our strength from a higher standard than them that of our spiritual ancestor Maelmoire and St. Molaug before him. And never forget the reverence that we hold for the temporal leadership of the Baron of Bachuil and his son the Young Bachuil, St Molaug's sucessors. We our but the Baron's children and his legitimate cousins and in the end we must ask for his understanding and mercy. Above all keep your faith, your belief in our gaelic heartland and in highland clan Maconlea or McDunsliebhe if you prefer. Go mbeannai/Dia is Moire duit (May God and Mary bless you) And thank you for your support. Donald (Maconlea)Clink

David, I thought petitions to the King prior to the Revolutionary War might have come to mind. A good biography of Benjamin Franklin is advised to understand the failure to reach understanding in that dispute. No man tried harder to reach an understanding with Great Britain than Benjamin Franklin. A great read. Donald
