Clan representation @ Highland games

Judging from the response to this website, it is apparent that our clan is growing in support.  I was wondering, what would it take to bring awareness of our small yet proud clan beyond this forum?  What I am specifically wondering is, how can we have an "official clan booth" at the various highland games/gatherings?  Having recently attended the San Diego games, I was imagining how great it would be to have the McLea colors flying alongside the other clans in the procession.  Does anyone know how we may organize this?

Dear Roderic, Mea Culpa. This has been something about which I have been concerned for sometime.  In February I discussed the idea with my cousin Rob.  We need to set up a US Clan McLea/Livingstone Society/Association.  Bachuil would be the Chief, but we need other officers.  In the first instance I am proposing that Rob Livingston acts as the US "Secretary" or whatever title is appropriate.  My father would grant him a commission to hold this office and the right to fly the Pinsel (see http://www.clanlivingstone.com/flags.htm).  Eventually office bearers would be elected by the members, subject always to the approval of the chief. We also need Societies elsewhere. Therefore, there are various requirements. 1 A constitution.  I think I can get help here from various sources. 2 A quorum of interested people who are prepared to commit time and hold office. 3 An active community of clansmen and women who are prepared to participate 4 Funds - A membership fee to pay for Tents, Leaflets, Pinsel etc. I very much regret that I don’t have the time to set this all up.  Help is needed. That is a great idea.  I belong to a similar society for Clan Campbell here in the US.  My oldest identified Livingstone ancestor married a Campbell and I think the two clans may have historically been allied.  Their society is quite active and provides quite a bit of helpful information.

Michael, Yes the Livingstone's were historically linked with the Campbells, but I doubt we ever gave them any trust.  We were aligned with the Stewart's who more than not battled with the trecherous Campbells, as was the case at Culloden, where Donald Livingstone saved the Stewart banner and then spent many a day elluding the Campbells. I have just had an email from Rob Livingston, who lives in California. He has literally just come out of Hospital, having had some major surgery and will be shortly be going through a chemo/radiation regime.  He is nevertheless thrilled to take on the mantle - but he will need all the help he can get.

Congratulations to cousin Rob, I know he has the diligence to do a great job. I would also like to wish him a total recovery in his present battle. I would like to be the first to submit my name for membership and to offer a helping hand when called upon. For those with an interest, the Long Island Scottish Clan Association will be holding their annual highland games at Old Westbury Gardens on August 21st this year. That could be a first time meeting place if there are other interested Livingstones in the area. BobL

I would also like to submit my name to offer any and all assistance/help I may provide toward the further organization of our clan. Also, I wish all the best to cousin Rob for his recovery and continued health.  From what I gathered from the posting, my father is engaged in a similar battle having begun his own regimen of chemotherapy last month.  My heart goes out to all my relations.
