Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta,
Regarding your previous postings please note that should read Malcolm Livingston born abt.1803 of Judique and later Port Hood, Inverness County, Cape Breton married to Flora Cameron not Isabel McDonald that was as you later state in your posting Malcolm's mother actually. I am glad you and Jewel are keeping track of the Massachussetts connection with the Livingstons. I think one or two of the PEI Livingstons also went to Massachusetts.
I wish I could go back to the information we had earlier on the Lot 31 Queens County Livingstons of PEI. I think we discussed them some months back but cant remember in how much detail. Anyways I work with what with have and do some further research. They dont seem to be connected to the Livingston family situated in Lot 30 I found which I was able to determine were connected to old Morvern/Mull pioneers Donald and Mary Livingston of Nine Mile Creek Lot 65, Queens County, PEI. Perhaps Barry has some info on Lot 31 QUeens County Livingstons from his time at the PEI archives. Perhaps they were listed in the old census records.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta,
I have updated my old post on the family of Malcolm Livingston and Flora Cameron, Malcolm being the son of John Livingston and Isabel MacDonald. Got all the name right this time with the help of the 1881 Census for Judique and neighbouring Port Hood in Inverness County however the original family list and the dates from the census dont exactly match. But at this we have an accurate listing of the family we just need to be able to sort out the birthdates more accurately. It is a start anyways. Malcolm was in the 1871 census I recall and then his wife Flora is a 70 year old widow in the 1881 Census so I assume he died between 1871 and 1881. Perhaps there is death record for Malcolm Livingston of Port Hood, Inverness County or cemetery stone b. 1803
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta,
My cousin tried to tell me that Donald and Daniel are often the same name among the Scottish. I dont know about that but perhaps that explains why I can only find Daniel living with his mother Flora around the same age as Donald. There seems be a son Daniel who was fisherman and is listed in the 1881 census with widowed mother flora and the some of the rest of her family.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Donald;
Well, my understanding of the nameing of Scottish offspring is of tradition in the Scottish Culture. My 3rd great grandfather was Donald David. He was mentioned in his fathers obituary, John 1807, as D. D. Most references, except his fathers will, are either D. D. or Daniel. However, his legal name was Donald. I recall Kyle, I believe it was Kyle, explaining this particular practice was a show of respect for direct relatives who came before the named child.
I don't know exactly how this nameing process works but, someone in our Clan knows and perhaps will come on to explain it better than I.
Regards;
Roberta

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta,
I noticed that in the 1881 nova scotia census in Judique/Port Hood area that Malcolm and Flora son's Allan Livingston is married to Ann and his brother John is married to a Sarah. I wonder if that book could be wrong.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi again Donald;
Well, Donald looks like the book is wrong. According to Clanranald: John Livingstone 1832 married Annie MacDonald.
Allan Livingstone 1833 married Ann Chisholm d/o John (Iain 'ic Caiillein) Chisholm. Both sons of Malcolm Livingstone 1803 and Flora Ann Cameron 1811. Although, Clanranald has Flora Ann born 1809. Her obituary says 1811.
By the way, Donald, are you; by any chance, related to the Chisholms?
Regards
Roberta

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi again, Donald;
MacDonald of Clanranald also has the names of the children of John P. 1773 and Isabel MacDonald abt. 1780 d/o Angus "Pioneer" MacDonald.
However, I believe you all ready have that. Let me know, Donald, because if you don't have a listing of the children of John P. and Isabel; I will retrieve the list from Clanranald.
