A question about Dunsleve: Have we ever had any success in recruiting members of families with the surname Dunleavy or similar to participate in the DNA project?

Dear Young Bachuil, We need a map with greater detail of Ulster-to- Argyll to match your presentation. I am glad there is primary source material to reference/support the line of descent outwith the reliance on the debatable genealogy of the unrecorded O'Neill Prince. I personally can't imagine the Irish Sennachie's missing any O'Neill Prince marrying a Princess of Lorne- and it not being recorded at the time. At a time when the O'Neill's were at their height, where every Prince was a potential High King and every cousin the potential head of another territorial branch of the O'Neill's. Telling is the detail of the Irish records which record our MacDunnsliebe's making their way to Scotland, and also the Sennachie's being aware of the later name change to Livingstone. I think the clarity surrounding that detail alone convey's the high degree of continuity and knowledge of the descendant Ulidian line. All the best. Grant South

Yes, not Lorn which is swimming in my head, what was I thinking... And yes only the Annals would be considered a primary source, the others later and secondry in nature. I have a question regarding some of the conjectural genealogy proposed by Moncreiffe. In 'The Galley' conjectural tree a connection is draw via the line of Godfrey MacFergus of Oriel, Toiseach of the Isles that a descent is inherent from the Kindred of St Columba, proposed on the inclusion of the heraldic motif of a red hand holding a blue cross in the Arms of the Macdonalds. This cross is very different to the simple form of the stem arms of The O'Donnell, who is Chief of the Kindred of St Columba. Is this cross associated more clearly with the Cenel Loairn and St Molaug? Slainte!

If people look around the various regional and surname message boards on the web, you'll find not only Rob and myself promoting the DNA project but also some of the more active other participants, including also many of the "lowland" Livingstons. We have also included an enormous list of surnames we are interested in getting as participants on our Family Tree DNA webpage. As the project gets bigger it could benefit a lot from such load sharing, and it has always been a good thing within family groups (for example Kyle has a relative in). We are afterall a group with a lot of surname possibilities! Within reason please feel free to go out recruiting, but I'd suggest keeping the first explanations simple, with a reference to a website for example, for those who are interested to learn more. As is normal, people are always easily put off by unsolicited invititations to join anything. Best Regards Andrew
