Manx name mention

Dear Forum, I found this reference which many of you may have seen (not sure). http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook ... /ch102.htm In it, this is mentioned of the origin of the name "Isle of Man": "The Manksmen have a tradition yt at their coming of their apostle St. Patrick,' they had a king whom they call Manna-Man-Maclea, him they held to have been the first yt did conquer them, and yt ye Island of him took ye name of Man, and hath ever since retained it unto this day." I don't know if this is a transcription error or something else, but I saw "Maclea" and thought I'd send it out in case anyone had some thoughts. Kyle

There is also a mention, seemingly about the same person(?) in Scottish Myths 1882, by Robert Craig Maclagan, p. 108: "Train ["Isle of Man", p. 321] quotes a tradition how one Melinus or Mac Lea was a magician in the island in the time of St. Patrick, and, aspiring to the reputation of a god, did aspire to fly in the air..."

I did not know this. This is very interesting. Anyone going to the Isle of Man? Please take a sample kit for the DNA project!
