Julie Stackable from the Scottish Placenames Forum sent me the following reply to my inquiry about books for Medieval writing: Scottish Handwriting.com has a nice online tutorial at http://www.scottishhandwriting.com/content/ which helps with the 16th century secretary hand. If you can be a little more specific than medieval (i.e. specifically what time frame, just 'medieval' covers a lot of ground) I'd be happy to suggest some books . . . . From another Scots Placenames Forum member was this note: A more general volume I have found very useful is Gooder EA 'Latin for Local History - An Introduction' which also covers scripts (palaeography). The classic general introduction to the subject is still, I think, Bischoff (trans. by o Croinin & Ganz) 'Latin Palaeography - Antiquity and the Middle Ages'. Rob
